The Writer and the Critic is a monthly podcast devoted mostly to speculative fiction books, reviews and the odd bit of idle gossip. Hosted by Kirstyn McDermott and Ian Mond.
Kirstyn McDermott was born on Halloween, an auspicious date which perhaps accounts for her lifelong attraction to all things dark, mysterious and bumpy-in-the-night. She has been published in various magazines and anthologies, including Shadowed Realms, Southerly, GUD, Redsine, Southern Blood and Island. Kirstyn lives in Melbourne and is a member of the SuperNOVA writers group. Her fiction has won Aurealis, Australian Shadows, Ditmar and Chronos Awards, and her debut novel, Madigan Mine, was published by Picador in 2010. http://www.kirstynmcdermott.com
Ian Mond once wrote some Doctor Who and Benny Summerfield short stories for Big Finish Productions. But these days, you can usually find him pottering around on his LiveJournal where he delights in reviewing books, short story collections and episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He's also just joined Last Short Story for 2011, which means if you don't hear from him for week on end it's because he's reading a glut of short stories.
